As mothers go, I feel like I won the Mom lottery. Through no feat of my own, I was born into a home where I never questioned whether or not I was loved. That is a gift and blessing so many are not as fortunate to inherit. As a single parent my mother went above and beyond to make sure her kids had every chance to succeed, even when it meant she would have to go without so her kids would not. She taught my sister and me the value of hard work, both in her words and in her actions.
